We offer a diverse range of membership levels to suit members. An Adopter member, for example, can view our approved technical profile specifications, which provides a key guide on the functionality of our connectivity profiles.
If your company wants to design and develop your own Wi-SUN certified products, then a Contributor-level membership might be for you. This level gives you full access to our technical specification, test and draft specs, along with an accelerated submission process for certification.
For those looking to shape the future direction of the Alliance, there is the Promoter-level membership level. Subject to the approval of our Board of Directors, this level celebrates the proven contributions made to promote the Wi-SUN Alliance. The Wi-SUN Alliance is an organization made up of major corporations and leaders across the IoT ecosystem. Proud of over 300 members representing 46 countries and with more than 100 million devices deployed, our Members Meetings are a melting pot of expertise, experience, and insight.
Our Members Meetings remain the best place to gain insight into current Wi-SUN Alliance activities and workgroup efforts, and benefit from our unique networking opportunities. The face-to-face meetings give members the chance to attend dedicated Working Groups that they may not have experienced before, to learn more and help shape current and future wireless connectivity developments.

Setting industry standards
Wi-SUN specifications have proved to be the best option for bringing smart, ubiquitous networks to service providers, utilities, municipalities and other enterprises, by enabling these organizations to deploy interoperable and multi-service wireless mesh networks in their enterprises. Wi-SUN is being used across the world for a wide range of critical applications.
Key to the success of these networks is interoperability. We have developed our Field Area Network (FAN) Certification Program to certify devices for use in Smart City and utilities projects to give the maximum advantage to large-scale rollouts. Through membership and certification, we can verify that your devices will correctly operate in multi-vendor networks and enhance performance while reducing the risk of vendor lock-ins.
Promoting the leading technology
Wi-SUN FAN 1.1’s High Performance (HP) profile has significantly higher throughput than its competitors – including LoRaWAN and NB-IoT – in conventional deployments, providing quicker responsiveness and lower network latency for certain applications.
Wi-SUN FAN 1.1 also includes a Low Energy (LE) profile that enables better power usage for battery-reliant devices, allowing 10-15 year battery usage.
Enterprise level security
All Wi-SUN products are rigorously tested by a third-party test lab to ensure devices work seamlessly and securely, all while quickening time to market. By becoming a member and certifying your device, you can gain a digital certificate that authenticates entry to Wi-SUN FAN networks, significantly reducing vulnerabilities to cyber threats.
Wi-SUN Alliance member companies can also gain access to Certificate Authority services offered by companies such as GlobalSign and WISeKey. Member devices that have achieved FAN 1.1 certification also obtain additional security measures, such as FAN message encryption, integrity checking, and the distribution of keys following best practice from NIST, IEEE and IETF.
