Wi-SUN Alliance Turns Its Attention to DistribuTECH 2024

With DistribuTECH (Feb. 26-29 in Orlando, Florida) just around the corner, we take time out to look at this hugely important event for the Wi-SUN Alliance and its members.

Unlike some industry events that fail to keep pace with changing times, DistribuTECH couldn’t be more different. As the largest and most influential utility event worldwide, its job is to reflect and report on what’s happening in the industry – and, more importantly, why.

I would argue that the timing has never been more significant as utilities face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs, as well as the need for greater investment in building renewable power sources in response to decarbonization efforts, and regulatory changes. All of this in the face of more extreme weather events and disasters and the resulting disruptions to supply.

Technology, as so often is the case, is at the heart of solving so many of these challenges – from advanced metering infrastructure and renewable energy integration to the cool stuff like drone technology and AI. I’m sure we will see and hear more about these at the show. While the communications network that underpins many of these technologies might not be regarded as ‘cool’, it’s critical to success and provides the foundations for everything else that follows.

Wi-SUN Alliance will be on booth #1957 in the heart of the show floor with our Wi-SUN FAN Interoperability demo, and supported by several member companies, including Cisco, Hexing, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Lierda, Nissin Systems, Renesas Silicon Labs, and Texas Instruments, VertexCom.

We are looking forward to visiting members’ stands (be on the lookout for Wi-SUN member cards displayed throughout the show floor). As always, our marketing and PR teams will be at the show conducting videos interviews with members and partners.

This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand from our members their views on what’s happening in the industry, and why it’s never been more important to be part of a global ecosystem like Wi-SUN Alliance.

Ahead of DistribuTECH, we’re also running a survey among senior executives at U.S. utilities with plans to announce the results on the first day of show to drive media interest and footfall to the stand. It covers a range of topics, but taps into some of the challenges mentioned earlier, from coping with extreme events and disasters to integrating new technologies like AI. We look forward to sharing the results in a couple of weeks.

DistribuTECH is an important event in the calendar for us and our member companies, so I look forward to seeing you there and to a busy and successful show.
