Building Distribution Automation Applications Including FLISR and Volt-VAR with Open Mesh Networking Standards

This session offers practical advice on how utilities can leverage the open Wi-SUN mesh networking standard to drive down total cost of ownership and OpEx while still meeting the critical performance and latency requirements necessary to deliver Distribution Automation applications including FLISR and Volt-VAR control. Working together, Schweitzer Engineering Lab (SEL) and Cisco have built out and validated a joint solution architecture that provides design guidance for how to deploy highly scalable and security systems of field DA devices (reclosers, line sensors, cap bank controllers) that are easy to manage and meet the performance and response times needed for DA applications.
