Wi-SUN Alliance Newsletter
July 2021
Message from Phil Beecher, President & CEO

Dear Wi-SUN Alliance Community,

The second quarter has been a busy one with our participation in industry events including Smart Cities Connect, where we participated in a panel session with member Silicon Labs, and at Metering China where Wi-SUN Alliance had a booth and held a seminar session with members Hexing, Lierda, Pelion, Silicon Labs and Vertexcom.

We also hosted a very well attended virtual member meeting that covered the expansion of our Wi-SUN ecosystem and attendees learned new and exciting ways Wi-SUN is being deployed into the market.

We are excited to release our new e-book which highlights how Wi-SUN FAN (Field Area Networks) technology makes cities and IoT smart. The e-book features a one-to-one with me as well as the vision and insights of eight leading Wi-SUN promoter member companies, including Cisco, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Hexing, OKI, Renesas, Silicon Labs and Texas Instruments, addressing the following key questions:

  1. Where they see Wi-SUN FAN applications in the next five years?
  2. What new application opportunities they envisage for Wi-SUN technology?
  3. How will 5G impact Wi-SUN FAN developments and adoption?

To download a copy of the e-book, please click here.

We continue to see growth in our range of certified products, which have now exceeded 200, including an increasing number of Wi-SUN FAN certified products, with more than 45 products from 18 companies and growing.

Despite the difficulties in holding face to face meetings, we continue to see good progress with the next phase of Wi-SUN FAN.  Wi-SUN FAN 1.1 delivers higher data rates with lower latency, enhancing performance for Distribution Automation applications, as well as providing a certification program for battery-powered devices supporting applications such as gas and water metering, environmental monitoring, traffic sensing and parking management.

Finally, once again, I'd like to thank all our member companies and the individuals who have continued to work hard in most difficult circumstances. I look forward to meeting everyone again when we have the opportunity to hold in-person events. In the meantime, please stay safe!

More highlights and updates can be found below.

Regards, Phil Beecher, President and CEO
