Utilities across North America will have the opportunity to experience the operational and scalability benefits of deploying Wi-SUN FAN 1.1 during the upcoming Wi-SUN Alliance North American Interop event.
Held August 20th and hosted by utility Duke Energy – a member of the Wi-SUN Alliance – in its offices in Charlotte, North Carolina, the event will focus on Wi-SUN multi-vendor interoperability and other key features of Wi-SUN FAN 1.1, including a demonstration of the data-rate improvement of the OFDM-based High Performance profile.
Top technical decision-makers from across the Utility and Industrial IoT ecosystem will also present their know-how and experiences with FAN 1.1 in an educational forum to be held throughout the day.
“We are delighted to be bringing our latest interoperability event to North America,” said Wi-SUN Alliance CEO and President Phil Beecher. “With businesses in the sector facing increasing costs, as well as the growing demands of a rapidly changing energy landscape, our event will provide a suitable forum for Utilities and others to come together, witness the feasibility of FAN 1.1 within the region, and underline the clear benefits of certifying solutions through our FAN 1.1 Certification Program.”
Major players from across the industry, including Cisco, Itron, Landis+Gyr, Renesas Electronics, Silicon Labs, Texas Instruments, Exegin Technologies, and MMB Networks, have already confirmed their attendance at the event.
The event follows the launch of the Wi-SUN Alliance’s FAN 1.1 Certification Program, which ensures that products such as smart meters and other utility IoT devices will successfully interoperate in a multi-vendor data network, in compliance with the latest FAN 1.1 wireless mesh specification.
As a result, network builders in North America and beyond are benefiting from new capabilities afforded through FAN 1.1, including High Performance (HP) link speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps for AMI 2.0 requirements, Low-Energy (LE) operation for water and gas metering applications, and expanded support for 800 MHz and 900 MHz ISM band regions.
“Attendees should look forward to hearing insights from the North American Utilities who are already taking advantage of FAN 1.1 certification,” continued Beecher. “I’d also like to thank Duke Energy for hosting what will no doubt be a key event for the North American market.”
